History

Enjoy a cocktail at the bar The Top Steak House provides a fine-dining experience from an era of the 1950's style. We have prospered by maintaining this image, décor and by providing fine quality food and service. The restaurant opened in 1955, has been independently owned by only two different owners and has been a favorite meeting place for steaks, martinis and other drinks on Columbus's east side.

We specialize in large portions of customer favorites, such as filets, strips, prime rib, pork baby back ribs and sea food, including cold water giant lobster tails. As a throwback to old practices, the Top includes salad and potatoes in its entrée prices. Many of the sides are prepared in the Top kitchen, such as our famous onion soup, dressings, home fries, and sauces.

The dark décor, fireplace, copper top bar and piano bar, wood paneling and dark Naugahyde booths are the real thing and add to the supper club nostalgic atmosphere enjoyed by loyal local patrons as well as by travelers who frequent the Top when in Columbus on business.

The Dining Room at The TopA piano bar with established local pianists provides an excellent repertoire of melodies on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The music selection for the CD player with speakers in all sections of the restaurant, provides background when pianists are not playing. Selected artists include Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Dean Martin (as well as "Rat Pack" selections), Tony Bennet, Mills Brothers, Nat King Cole, and a host of other 50's and 60's artists.

The Top's family owners are actively involved in every detail of the restaurant operation, maintaining the tradition and image for which the Top has been and continues to be recognized. A commitment to retain the elite status the steak house has enjoyed since its inception is evident in the physical surroundings, as well as the food and the service. In fact, since taking over the restaurant in 1999, the Top has been continually recognized by the Columbus Dispatch by including the Top in its "Top Twenty" restaurants for the last three years.
